The Story

You were just clearing out the attic when you found it. An old board game, dusty and forgotten, tucked away in a box that looked like it had not been opened in decades. Curiosity got the better of you.

The moment you lifted the lid, everything changed.

A vortex ripped through the room and swallowed you whole. For a fleeting moment you glimpsed the world inside — wild, untamed, and utterly terrifying. Then just as suddenly you were thrown back into reality, gasping and disoriented, the board game sitting in front of you as if nothing had happened.

You decide immediately. Never again. You move to leave the room and forget any of it ever happened.

The door will not open. You are locked in.

From across the room, the board game flickers to life. Words appear across the surface, slowly and deliberately: The dice have been rolled.

The choice has been made for you. Complete the game or be consumed by the other realm forever. The jungle is waiting. You have sixty minutes to finish what the game started — before it finishes you.

What Makes This Room Different

Jungala takes a completely different approach to the escape room format. Rather than placing you inside a physical location like a prison or a vault, it pulls you into a story — one where the stakes feel personal from the very first moment.

The board game concept gives the room a unique rhythm. Progress feels earned, and each stage of the game brings you closer to freedom in a way that is genuinely satisfying. The theming is rich and immersive, and the puzzles feel like a natural extension of the world you have been dragged into.

This is the room that surprises people. Players who expect a standard escape room walk out talking about the atmosphere and the storytelling. It is unlike anything else in the building.

Difficulty

Jungala is rated 3 out of 5 stars, making it one of the more accessible rooms at Escape Reality Edinburgh. The puzzles are inventive but not punishing, and the structure of the game gives you a clear sense of direction throughout.

This is an ideal choice for mixed-experience groups, families with older children, or anyone stepping up from a beginner room and wanting something with more atmosphere and narrative depth. It is also a great option if your group prefers immersion and storytelling over pure puzzle difficulty.

Ideal Group

Jungala works well with groups of 3 to 6 players. The collaborative nature of the board game mechanic means everyone has a role to play — no one gets left standing at the back watching others solve everything.

It is a brilliant option for family groups, friends who enjoy adventure and narrative-driven experiences, and corporate teams looking for something a little different from the usual problem-solving format. The theme is universally engaging and the tension builds naturally as the clock runs down.

Tips Before You Go

  • Arrive at least 20 minutes early to complete your briefing and get into the right headspace
  • Read everything — the world of Jungala gives you clues through its story, not just its puzzles
  • Think about the board game mechanic as a framework — it will help you understand the structure of the room
  • Keep the whole team involved throughout, there are no dead ends where only one person can contribute
  • Do not be afraid to ask for hints if you feel the jungle closing in — sixty minutes goes faster than you think
