Types of Players of Escape Rooms

Escape Reality has at least one room that will be right up your street whether you are a horror, thriller, or adventure seeker. If you are looking for unique and quirky things to do in Manchester, then why not try something out of the ordinary. You have one hour to escape the room. Will you succeed? We’ve put together our helpful tips for the optimum escape room team to share with you and prepare you for your escape mission.

Having hosted thousands of escape games over the years, our Game Masters have seen many different people and have noticed similarities in the structure of most groups – some of these have been successful in escaping, and some not quite as lucky. There are many types of players of Escape Rooms that we see across the countless people that come through our doors (and then get locked in!).

Remember you have to stick with your team for 60 minutes, so make sure you choose the right people to help you escape from the room! You need to build your team of 2-6 players with a variety of interests and skills. By diversifying your team, you have a better chance of beating our escape room game as you can cover a wide range of tasks and puzzle types and make your escape!

The Types

The first type of escape room player that we come across with every group is The Leader. The Leader tends to take charge of the strategies and believes they know best when it comes to escaping. They usually don’t appear phased by the unknown (potentially) horror that awaits them – and if they do they hide it well so as to not spook their teammates!

The second type of escape room player that we see is The Time Keeper. The Time Keeper helps to keep everyone on track by keeping an eye on the countdown timer. They help to create a sense of urgency by reminding the team that the clock is ticking! If you’ve played an escape room before, you’ll know just how quickly that hour flies by. If you’re an escape room newbie, you’ll very quickly realise that 60 minutes in an escape room feels more like only 15 minutes have gone by! It’s always handy having that ’10 minutes left!’ check in to get your team moving on the final escape room puzzles and achieve the successful escape.

Types of Players of Escape Rooms

The Thinker often acts as the number 2 to The Leader. The Thinker looks closely at the detailed aspects inside the escape room. They are the ones coming up with ideas for solutions to the room puzzle. Be careful, as they can quickly become The Overthinker and be dismissive of other people’s ideas if they think they are ‘too simple’.

The Searcher is the member of the team who likes to hunt around the room in search of escape room clues – whether they are obvious or hidden! Usually very good at treasure hunts, they may find hidden clues that other team members would have missed. Their downfall is usually wasting too much time on red herrings as they think that everything they find could be a possible clue.

The Voice of the group tends to speak up for the team players who have their ideas overlooked by the more dominant members of the group. Even if the idea seems too simple or too farfetched, The Voice will make sure that everyone gets their chance to solve the puzzles.

The Joker doesn’t take the escape room too seriously. They usually like to crack a joke or two and play with the props (remember we can see everything you’re doing on the cameras!). They help to bring fun to the escape room experience. They can help to break the mounting tension as the countdown timer ticks away. Just make sure that you don’t let them get too carried away and waste the hour distracting the rest of the team as this will hinder your chances of escaping!

The Stock Keeper is the last of our types of escape room players. They tend to keep track of all of the clues, puzzles, items and locks that have been uncovered throughout the game. This person can often double up as The Searcher as they will hunt down all of the clues and items and then hoard them in the hopes of being a vital part of the puzzle-solving process.

Types of Players of Escape Rooms

So now that you know what to consider when building your perfect escape room team, get your friends together and see just how well you can work together. Remember – no matter what combination of types of players your team is made up of, you all share one common goal – to escape! Get stuck into the room as soon as your timer starts and be sure to listen to everyone’s suggestions as you never know which obscure thought could be the solution to the puzzle.

Escape Reality is also a great place for corporate days out, as you can break the ice and collaborate as a team. Workplaces tend to have a diverse range of personality types, which makes for a remarkable escape room team. Test your teamwork skills as you race against the clock to solve the puzzles. It’s even better when your workforce splits into groups of 5-6 players and tackles different rooms at the same time to see who can emerge victorious with the fastest escape time. Escape Reality escape games are a wonderful way to help build comradery amongst your teams.
